IMPORTANT INFORMATION!
This is "QPNG/386", a special freeware version of QPV/386. This version
only supports the PNG format. (FWIW, Targa files are also supported.)
For lack of time, QPNG doesn't have its own documentation, therefore I
include the original QPV documentation. Note that some parts of this
documentation do not apply to QPNG. Well, actually the documentation
isn't quite up-to-date anyway. Also note that the files are still named
"QPV" for technical reasons.
QPNG may be freely used and distributed. Use it on your own risk. The
standard disclaimer of QPV applies to QPNG, too.
QPNG is probably the most complete PNG viewer in existance. It supports
all color types (greyscale, palette, truecolor, greyscale with alpha,
truecolor with alpha), all bit depths from 1 to 16 bits/sample, background,
transparency, interlacing. Also, QPNG fully supports gammacorrection (see
QPV.INI). Last but not least, the decoding speed has been improved
considerably (compared to QPV and QPNG version 1.7a). So QPNG is probably
the fastest and most complete/correct PNG viewer for PCs.
Known bugs:
- The tRNS chunk is ignored for truecolor (RGB) images and for 16bit
greyscaled images (not common anyway).
- Not a bug, but should be improved: decoding of interlaced images
is too slow, especially if TEMP doesn't point to a RAM disk.
- Can't write PNG files yet.
Bug reports, suggestions, questions etc. should be sent via email to
oliver.fromme@heim3.tu-clausthal.de.
